Idaho Outdoors

There is more to Idaho than potatoes. With a over 3,000 miles in rivers and 800 miles of water mass, Idaho is an outdoor enthusiasts dream. From fly-fishing, to white-water rafting to horseback riding, sports enthusiasts will find Idaho to be nature’s playground. National parks are scatted throughout the region and offer visitors the best that nature has to offer. Located in Western Idaho, Hells Canyon National Recreation Area, provides visitors with over 600,000 acres of natural beauty and an abundance of outdoor adventure opportunities. The mountainous terrain throughout the park provides ideal conditions for mountain bikers and backpackers to get out and explore. And, Equestrian enthusiasts can enjoy the trails dedicated specifically to horseback riding. Hells Canyon’s forests are habitat to bear, mountain goats, elk, bobcats, several species of birds and insects; and are a popular spot for wildlife viewing and photographing. Also located in Hells Canyon, is the Snake River. Home to many whitewater outfitters, visitors can kayak, tube or raft this wild and scenic river.

Trips along the dam-controlled waterway can be enjoyed by all age and fitness levels. Although summer is the most popular time to ride the rapids, spring and fall can bring higher levels and beautiful scenery. Appropriate dress is required as the climate can change quickly and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Fishing enthusiasts will want to bring along their gear to lure in and catch a few of the many Trout, Salmon, Bass, and Sturgeon that populate the Snake River. Visitors can fry up those fish at one of the many picnic and camping areas located across the state. Idaho offers a wide variety of public and private campgrounds at each level, from rustic tent camping to luxury RV accommodations.
